SUNRISE FORGE

David Tucciarone is Sunrise Forge.  It all began while working as an apprentice in a shipyard.  He frequented the shipyard's blacksmith shop and took an interest in the trade.  He began looking for classes and seminars to learn the art form.  David started attending the John C. Campbell Folk School taking blacksmithing classes.  This introduced him to other smiths and blacksmithing organizations.  He has always had an artistic ability and working with iron seemed a good way to express this. The die was cast, as it were, and in 1987 David opened his own
blacksmith business.

David started displaying his work at shows and festivals.  At these shows he would demonstrate his trade and hand out business cards.  Over time he no longer needed to go to the public, they now come to him.  He handles a steady stream of projects from repeat customers and from those who hear about him by word of mouth.  In the midst of this, he also finds time to demonstrate at educational events.

Currently he is a member of the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America ,  The Blacksmith Guild of Virginia, and vice president of  Old Dominion Blacksmiths Association.  He also teaches blacksmithing classes at The Jacksonville Center in Floyd, VA, and the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brastown, NC.  In addition to these schools, David offers training sessions at his shop for those interested in improving their blacksmithing skills.  Starting in 2009, David will be teaching at the Central Virginia Community College Lynchburg campus.  His instruction will focus on metallurgy and metals as they apply to business and industry.

You can find David at the Forge on US Route 29 South outside of Rustburg, VA.  Look for the red building with the white roof.  He's open Monday thru Friday 8am - 6pm.  You can also visit on weekends by appointment.
